As part of the Dual Side Mount Intercooler mod, I decided to relocate my Diverter Valve(DV) for the following reasons:
-Easy access at the time
-Recirculate cooled air vs warm air
-Faster DV response
-Less turbo spool down on shifts and off throttle
-Easy access to the DV (apparently these need to be rebuilt every oil change... ?)
-and apparently its louder!!
I sourced a DV from 034 for $120. Forge makes one too, 007, but comes with more pieces and is twice the price.
Here is the stock DV location. This is from the turbo discharge piping, before any intercooler action. Some say it is placed here for plumbing efficiency from the bean counter stand point, others say it is put here for engineering efficiency.
In this quest, I'll be relocating it to just before the Throttle Body(TB). You can look at the 2.7tt and both DVs are located at the TB from the factory. It is somewhat a debated topic online, on where to best position it, but it has been essentially tried and trued on the 1.8 platform, so I wanted to try it.
Originally I was mocking up for the stock location, then I got to reading and here is the targeted location.
I grabbed a 50mm T fitting with a 1" bung on it. I simply cut into the stock intake piping and clamped it down. I used a 1-1/4" coupler fitting at the turbo discharge piping. Ran some 1" heater hose over to the TB/DV where it met up with an original 90 degree fitting from the old location. Then I reused/shortened the original 1/4" tubing going to the N249 valve.
Some complete photos.
Just some pics of cutting in the Tee fitting.
